President's Message

I began my working career in the 1970s at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center working on the Space Shuttle (STS)1 development project. Over a 25 year career I had the privilege of contributing to and managing a variety of challenging space projects associated with Space Shuttle, International Space Station (ISS)2, and a wide variety of both commercial and military satellites. My college training in computer engineering and engineering management helped prepare me for work in fault-tolerant systems engineering. Our credo in this profession was succinctly expressed by an acquaintence at Johnson Space Center as, "Failure is Not an Option" 3. Another edict we embraced in our work was the idea that what we designed was Mission CriticalDavid JohnsonDuring this career I applied the techniques I had learned to develop investment and trading systems, with an emphasis on risk management. After early retirement, I founded a stock selection subscription service and a regulated commodity trading advisor (CTA) firm that specialized in energy strategies at the New York Mercantile Exchange and algorithmic strategies in the foreign currency markets.

Since the ARPANET4 project led to the invention of the global internet, the world has become much more interconnected. Changing economic cycles, weather patterns, population rates, government policies, demographic shifts, foreign currency exchange rates, and the proliferation of technology are all intertwined in their effects on global markets. This increasingly complex investment environment creates many potential opportunities for profit and loss. Individual and institutional investors are inundated 24/7 with these opportunities via TV, radio, computer and their handy smart phones. Sometimes more information is not better. Root Cause Analysis (RCA) 5 and Six Sigma 6 are engineering techniques that may help isolate the underlying factors that are important for investment decisions.

I started Global Capital Group because I strongly believe that the investment industry needs educated, trained, experienced professionals who can guide, service and advise investors on the wide variety of investment options across the diverse asset classes available in today's markets. Each asset class has advantages and disadvantages compared to the others. Each has its own unique strengths and weaknesses, and underlying drivers of price change. Hundreds of strategies are available, offered by regulated money managers, that have the potential to profit in up, down and even sideways markets. The goal of portfolio construction should be to ensure there are no single-point failures and that the risks of the investments are different, creating non-correlated assets to reduce risk while achieving the client's investment goals. We will educate you as to what each asset class and strategy may contribute to your overall portfolio. We consider your investment portfolio to be Mission Critical to your retirement goals, and will approach the problem with a custom solution to meet your needs, educating you along the way.

If you have any questions, please feel free to call me directly to inquire in more detail about our approach. We look forward to assisting you in meeting your financial goals.

Sincerely,

David Johnson
